Jahresbericht 2000 für SSPT: Schweizerische Gesellschaft für Pharmakologie und Toxikologie Präsident/Präsidentin: Prof. U.T. Rüegg Von: Prof. U.T. Rüegg, Urs.Ruegg@dpharm.unil.ch Tagungen / Exkursionen / KurseOur Society organized the 5th Autumn Meeting in October 2000 in the context of the Annual Meeting of the Swiss Toxicology Society in Basle. The Theme of the Meeting was `Pharmacogenomics and Toxicogenomics` and a number of Swiss Scientists presented their work in the form of posters and as short communications. About 80 members attended this meeting. The Novartis Pharmacology Award was attributed for the fourth time. It went to Ms. Alexandra Krauskopf from the University of Lausanne who presented part of her Ph.D. thesis related to a study of the side effects of Cyclosporine A. The Meeting was subsidized by the Swiss Academy of Natural Science, Novartis, Roche and Ares-Serono. We are grateful for this essential help. Publikationen--- Internationale AktivitätenRegular contacts took place with the European Union of Pharmacology and the International Union of Pharmacology as well as with the European Society of Toxicology and the International Union of Toxicology. We attend to host in Switzerland a Congress of the European Union of Toxicology in one of the coming years and might propose Switzerland to host the IUPHAR in the year 2010. Forschungsinfrastruktur und -projekte / langfristige UnternehmungenAs a result of the evaluation of the state of Toxicology in Switzerland, the Swiss Academy of Medicine and of Science created a working group in order to establish a Swiss Network of Toxicologists. The SSPT is heavily involved in the creation of this Network. So far, two centers, one in Zurich and one in Allschwil are foreseen to be established. öffentlichkeitsarbeit--- WissenschaftspolitikThe members of the Society have submitted a project for the Swiss Virtual Campus. It is foreseen to create a national platform for Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology teaching during the next three years provided sufficient funds will be given to us. NachwuchsförderungThe Toxicology Section has again organized three modules on relevant topics in Toxicology as a postgraduate educational program, which is terminated by a Certificate. We have subsidized ten junior scientists to attend and participate actively at scientific congresses. This would not have been possible without the generous support of the Swiss Academy of Sciences and of the USSBE/USGEB, which agreed also to provide financial help to a number of our members. Administrative Tätigkeit (nur für Organe der SANW)The general Assembly of our members took place in Basel in October 2000. Prof. Urs Rüegg withdrew of President after six years and Dr. Emanuela Felley-Bosco also withdrew after four years from the council. Prof. Karl Hofbauer (University of Basel) was elected unanimously as new President and Dr. Jeannette Wood (Basel) took over Dr. Felley-Bosco`s position. The rest of the council was re-elected and consists of Dr. B. Schmid, Prof. P. Meier-Abt, Dr. H.-P. Käsermann (cashier) and Dr. J.-Y. Chatton (Secretary). Four meetings of the council were held as usual. A number of members withdrew from the Society, mostly due to retirement and about a dozen new members were elected. The Society currently counts about 310 members. The past year has been a very active one. On behalf of the committee I would like to thank all members for their support and for participating in some of the activities of our Society |
