Dr Jürg Pfister is Secretary General of the Swiss Academy of Sciences (SCNAT) since 1 April 2008.

Dr Pfister, who has a doctorate in biology, began his career at the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF), where he started out as a scientific associate, then trained in management and ultimately became director of the International Co-operation Division. In this capacity, he became established on the national and international arena as an insightful participant in numerous science-policy forums. At the same time he completed an in-service post-graduate Masters of Public Administration (MPA) in Lausanne, specialising in administrative science.

Jürg Pfister lives in Münsingen, he is married and has two daughters.
