SCNAT - The House of Sciences

Foundation of the Schweizerische Naturforschende Gesellschaft SNG (Swiss Association of the Natural Sciences)

 

1874

Introduction of the «principle of location» (Executive Board changes every six years) following adoption of new statutes

 

1910

Introduction of the Senate

 

1972

Central Secretariat replaced by General Secretariat

 

1984

Appointment as an institution for the promotion of research by the Swiss Confederation (research legislation)

 

1988

Change of name to Schweizerische Akademie der Naturwissenschaften/Academie des sciences naturelles/Swiss Academy of Sciences

 

2004

New image, change of name to Akademie der Naturwissenschaften Schweiz

 

  2007 Comprehensive structural reform of SCNAT accompanied by the adoption of new statutes and the abandonment of the «principle of location».

 

The Swiss Academy of Sciences is an extensive network of over 35,000 scientists from all subject areas and disciplines.
