The Executive Board is the strategic management body of the Swiss Academy of Sciences. Its tasks include the approval of the budget and the public representation of SCNAT. The Board members are also responsible for the authorization of mandates and service agreements with the platforms, including the controlling of the platforms. The Board has the authority to appoint its own working groups for special studies and is, therefore, authorised to instigate initial pilot studies independently of the platforms.

The Board has four to six members along with the President of SCNAT. The outgoing president and president elect are also members of the Board for a year.

Board members cannot hold the office of President or platform board member at the same time as being members of the Board.
