Platform Geosciences (formerly known as GeoForumCH)
The «Platform Geosciences» of the Swiss Academy of Sciences (SCNAT) serves as an interface between the various disciplines of geosciences, as well as between research, practice, administrations, politics and the public.
Geosciences encompass everything having to do with the system Earth, from its inner core to its outer atmosphere. They study the structure, the history, the evolution and the dynamics of our planet as well as the chemical and physical processes that take place within or between the lithosphere (rocks), the pedosphere (soil), the hydrosphere (water), the cryosphere (ice) and the atmosphere (air), without neglecting to also consider the interactions occurring between these components of the geosphere and the biosphere. Geosciences also investigate the impact of human activity on geosystems (erosion, pollution) as well as the risks for man and society that are linked to natural phenomena (earthquakes, volcanism, desertification, floods).
The «Platform Geosciences» encompasses all the societies and commissions of the Swiss Academy of Sciences that are active in the field of geosciences. Annual report 2010 Annual report 2009 Annual report 2008 Annual report 2007
